Hoima Catholic Diocese has been involved in community development work since 1973 to date with tremendous achievements in regard to relief services and implementation of pro-poor poverty reduction projects and programes in the fields of Agriculture,Rural infrastructure,water and sanitation, community empowerment and leadership training,gender and human rights ,curative health services,HIV/AIDS, advocacy and many more.
In the period of 2007 -2011, HOCADEO focuses on the following areas.

Agriculture Development

• Training Rural poor farmers in low-cost Modern methods of farming( suistainable Agriculture/Organic Farming).
  
• Supporting rural poor farmers with inputs of improved seed varieties and animal breeds.
  
• Promotion of enviromentally freindly farming practices.
  
• Provision of extention services with technical support of programme beneficiaries.
  
• Promotion of intergrated and mixed farming
  
• Provision of Agriculture credit(in kind)
  
• Introduction and promotion of appropriate farming technology such as animal traction, simple irrigation tools etc.
  
• Improving marketing infrastructure by removing physical,social,economic and cultural marketing bottle necks.
  
• Agricultural research and seed multiplication.
  
• Focus will also be put on general building and construction technology that is appropriate fo the rural community targeting improved housing and domestic and farm water harvesting and storage.
  
  Health Development
  
  
• Implementing a comphesive HIV/AIDs intervation including prevention,mitigation, care and support to both infected and affected people.
  
• Establishment of more health units in the most unserved rural areas for the provision of curative health services in Hoima diocese.
  
• Stregthening and initiating health education activities on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child nutrition and prevention/managment of common illnesses/Diseases, home hygiene and sanitaion using a community based approach.
  
  Rural infrastructure improvement
  
  
• Initiating, promoting and strengthening low cost approaches of improving rural housing conditions.
  
• Improvement of community access roads through spot grading and culvert bridging of impassable streams on key access roads.
• Development or improvement of rural community water sources.
  
  Rural Finance and Entreprenuership Development
  
  
• Enhancing rural access to sustainable credit facilities mainly through formation and support of community based savings and credit scheemes.
• Establishment of a central revolving fund at HOCADEO for providing soft low-cost loans to the saving and credit groups
  
• Training rural Entrepreneurs in basic business managment skills.
  
  Community Development and Empowerment
  
  
• Empowering local leaders with leadership and organisational/mobolisation skills.
  
• Establishing community based (Development) programme/ project managment structures and systems of Accountbillity
  
• Awareness raising on basic human rights,gender justice and child protection.
  
• Community empowerment training and conscientisation for integral development.
  
• Advocating goverment to increase support to pro- poor development programmes.
  
• Providing a plat form for the marginalised groups i.e youth,women, and rural poor to voice out their development corcerns.
  
• Promoting apprenticeship training.

• Developing common area development strategies with local and global development stakeholders/partners.
  
• Promoting and participating in development fora at local , national and international levels.
